Poole has a rich and fascinating history. In Tudor times trade with New Foundland brought the town it’s early prosperity and the port is still inextricably linked to the commercial success of the town.

Poole Harbour is set alongside the historic town of Poole and is the largest natural harbour in Europe.The harbour coastline stretches for some 60 miles and includes some 10,000 acres of water and mudland with picturesque islands.

The bustling Quay at the Old Town of Poole is very much a working quay and is the starting point for sight-seeing, angling trips and ferries to Brownsea Island and Bournemouth. The background to the quay is a conservation area with many listed buildings along the waterfront, most of which originally had commercial port functions, but which now house shops, restaurants, museums and many other tourist attractions.

The harbour provides every conceivable watersport one can imagine, windsurfing, kite sailing, water skiing, canoeing, rowing and harbour cruising.

For those of us who are less energetic enjoyment can be found from the visual beauty of the harbour and it’s abundant wildlife.
